For Home-Start Runnymede and Woking
Being
a parent is hard for everyone; for some it can be overwhelming. Some of us have
a fantastic support network of family and friends to help, some of us don’t.
If you have parenting experience
yourself and can spare as little as an couple of hours a week, you could help
local parents with young children not just survive but thrive during this
crisis by providing practical and emotional support and advice to a family in
their own home.
As a Home-Start volunteer, you will be
given training and support to be effective and make a real difference to
families in your community. You will also develop transferable skills
which can support you in your life, whether that’s at home or at work.
We are particularly looking for volunteers who can support first time mums in the early weeks with a new baby.
No particular skills are required other than parenting experience which could be from having your own children/grandchildren or from being a childminder or teacher.
Listening and good communication skills as well as empathy.
