Can you spare an hour every now and again? - Becoming a volunteer driver or duty officer is easy and you can give as much or as little of your time as your choose.

We always in need Duty Officers (they answer the phone for two hours in the morning when they are available and arrange the pickups)

We are in urgent need of drivers to  transport clients to visit their GP or to go to hospital or to the shops or a coffee morning. Sometimes we are asked to go further afield, but if you want to stay local all you have to do is say. Drivers have no fixed times but operate when they are free. (DBS check required)

What skills do I need?

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to take a driving test or undergo any other checks?
You’ll need a DBS check - this is free and transferable so you’ll be able to use it if you decide to volunteer with any other vulnerable adults. No driving test is required.

Where do volunteer drivers go?
Clients usually need transport to visit their GP or to go to hospital or to the shops or a coffee morning. Sometimes we are asked to go further afield, but if you want to stay local all you have to do is say.

What does a Duty Officer do?
A Duty Officer takes calls from clients on a mobile phone at home and then finds drivers from a list of volunteers. This could just be once a month or once a week - whatever you prefer.

Will it affect my insurance?
We will give you information to provide to your insurance company so that driving as a volunteer should not affect your premiums.

Do I have to make a regular commitment?
No you don’t. That’s the beauty of volunteering as driver. You can drive as often and regularly, or as little and infrequently, as you wish. The duty officer will call you with details of a job and if you can do it, great! If not, then the duty officer will simply contact another volunteer.

Who are our clients?

We aim to help anyone who cannot access transport anywhere else or who cannot afford transport from other providers. Sometimes clients just need a companion to travel with them if they don’t have any relatives nearby.

Can I claim expenses?
Yes - mileage and parking will be reimbursed.
