For Hockey Museum (The)
Who We Are
The Hockey Museum is the first and only museum of hockey in the world. We are a charity working to preserve, share and celebrate the rich history and heritage of the sport of hockey, not only in Britain where the ‘modern’ game started, but also from all around the world.
Would you like to play a part in our success story? We welcome anyone who would like to be involved in hockey’s history and heritage or is interested in museums and history generally. The Hockey Museum is committed to continuing to develop a diverse and inclusive environment for all our volunteers.
The Opportunity
Our collections (archives, clothes, equipment, photographs, presentations and trophies, etc.) provide a rich source of information for all those interested in the history of the game and an insight into the personal stories behind the paperwork and objects. As part of maintaining our fully accredited museum status, we need to carry out an audit, checking what we hold in our stores to make sure that our records are as accurate as possible. You may even discover important objects that have not yet been itemised!
What We Have to Offer
This is an opportunity for you to learn about what goes on behind the scenes at a museum, e.g. preventative conservation, documentation, etc., alongside our museum professional staff, and gain a variety of valuable new skills and experience.
We are looking for someone interested in history and heritage and/or hockey, preserving objects from hockey’s past, and contributing to the development of a globally unique heritage organisation, in a friendly, sociable environment.
Please note that, as we will need to assemble a group of volunteers to train before carrying out this important task, we are only asking for expressions of interest at this stage, to follow up when we are ready to begin the process in a few months’ time.
