Who We Are

The Hockey Museum is the first and only museum of hockey in the world. We are a charity working to preserve, share and celebrate the rich history and heritage of the sport of hockey, not only in Britain where the ‘modern’ game started, but also from all around the world.

Would you like to play a part in our success story? We welcome anyone who would like to be involved in hockey’s history and heritage or is interested in museums and history generally. The Hockey Museum is committed to continuing to develop a diverse and inclusive environment for all our volunteers.

The Opportunity

The Pat Rowley Journalistic Archive represents the lifetime’s work of hockey journalist and former International Hockey Federation (FIH) Media Officer Patrick Rowley who reported on hockey internationally and in the British press for more than 60 years. He was also Editor of the FIH’s magazine World Hockey. Pat was one of the most renowned hockey correspondents working in an era when journalism and print media were the principal means of communication.

We now need a volunteer to work under the direction of our Archivist to digitise Pat’s handwritten notebooks and conclude work to scan and conserve newspaper cuttings from the Archive. No previous experience is needed as all training will be provided.

What We Have to Offer

This is an opportunity for you to learn about what goes on behind the scenes at a museum and archive, e.g. preventative conservation, documentation, digitisation etc., alongside our museum professional staff, and gain valuable new skills and experience.

We are looking for someone interested in contributing to the development of a globally unique heritage organisation, in a friendly, sociable environment.
