The Woking Isolation and Loneliness Group in conjunction with Sliver Friends is dedicated to supporting residents across the borough who find it difficult to get out and about on their own. Many of the people we help are older, vulnerable, or socially isolated, and a simple trip out can make a huge difference to their wellbeing.

We are delighted to have access to a community transport minibus, and we are now looking for friendly, reliable Volunteer Drivers to help us run this service and support local residents.

What the role involves -  Volunteer drivers will help transport individuals and small groups to community activities, social events, appointments, and wellbeing sessions across Woking. This role directly helps people reconnect, feel part of the community, and reduce their sense of isolation.

What we’re looking for

To volunteer as a driver, you will need:

  • A full, current driving licence
  • To be aged 25 or over
  • Current MiDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training

How it works

  • A DBS check will be required before you start to volunteer.
  • Flexible hours – we will work with you to find times that suit both you and the organisation.
  • You will be helping vulnerable people regain independence and stay connected within the Woking community.

Why volunteer? - Volunteering as a driver is rewarding, sociable, and makes a real impact on people’s lives. Even a few hours a week can help someone feel less alone.

What skills do I need?

To be comfortable working with members of the public, including vulnerable adults

Someone who is friendly, patient, and happy to be part of a supportive volunteer team
