The Treasurer is a key member of the club committee, responsible for overseeing all financial matters and ensuring the club operates on a sound and sustainable financial footing. This is a rewarding voluntary position that plays a vital part in the long-term health and growth of the club. Key Responsibilities Financial Management Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all income and expenditure Manage the club's bank accounts, including authorising payments and reconciling statements Oversee petty cash and ensure proper receipting of all transactions Monitor cash flow and flag any financial risks to the committee Reporting & Governance Prepare and present clear financial reports at monthly committee meetings Produce annual accounts and end-of-year financial statements Liaise with an independent examiner or auditor as required Ensure the club meets all financial obligations under its constitution and league rules Budgeting & Planning Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with the committee Provide financial input on major decisions such as kit purchases, ground improvements, and player registrations Identify opportunities to improve the club's financial position Compliance & Administration Ensure compliance with HMRC requirements, including Gift Aid claims where applicable Maintain records in line with data protection obligations Manage relationships with the club's bank and any relevant financial institutions Support grant applications with financial information and reporting

What skills do I need?

Person Specification Essential - Experience managing personal, business, or organisational finances Competent with spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets) Organised, methodical, and reliable with a strong attention to detail Good written and verbal communication skills Ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance audiences Trustworthy and discreet in handling sensitive financial data Committed to the ethos and values of grassroots football Desirable - Formal accountancy or bookkeeping qualification (AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or similar) Previous experience as a treasurer or finance officer in a sports club, charity, or community organisation Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, or Sage) Knowledge of FA and league financial regulations Experience of applying for grants or managing restricted funds Understanding of Gift Aid and charity/CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) status
